Kai Oni Canoe Club was organized back in 1952 by Joseph "Stew" Kalama and Maxwell Kamaiopili.  Stew Kalama, as everyone called him, had served as head coach or as an advisor to the club from 1952 to 1994.  He suffered several strokes since 1994 and passed away in september od 2000

The club was restarted by Aunty Shirley Kalama in 2005 with Duane Samson as head coach.  Duane paddled with Kai Oni in his youth and has assembled a competent team of coaches to lead the new Kai Oni Canoe Club.

Our goal at Kai Oni Canoe Club is to allow as many people as possible to participate in the sport of canoe paddling.  We also hope that you will enjoy the good things that come from participating in a team sport.
